This week in writing, your student will be reading an article “Smartphones” in Freckle and using the assigned topic to write an Opinion piece.
When trying to access the "Smartphones"article for the writing/reading assignment in Freckle, for this week. It will open to another article, this is a pretest. Students must complete the prestests before being allowed to access the writing/reading assignment. It should be three short passages with 3 questions each. Once the pretests are complete it will open, to the window with the backpack, to give you access to the assignments. Make sure to click on the backpack and then go back and click on the "Smartphones" writing or reading assignment and it should open up.
Monday- they will read the article and use text evidence to answer the questions.
Tuesday- draft an opinion piece based on the article “Smartphones.” They will need to refer to the assignment in Freckle to find the opinion writing topic they will use.
Wednesday- they will need to edit the rough draft of their opinion piece.
Thursday- Complete a final copy of their writing, making sure to use evidence from the article, state their opinion clearly, use reasons, facts, and details to support their point of view. They will need to have at least 3-4 reasons and examples with transitions. Each reason must be a separate paragraph with examples, facts, and details from the article. Finally, they will sum up their writing with a concluding statement that restates their opinion.
They must remember to read over their writing to check for complete sentences, capitals, punctuation, and correct spelling.
Once their final draft is complete, please submit it to your teacher.
